Suspect steals money from fellow detainee in Lagos
In a dramatic twist during an early morning clean-up operation carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Task Force, a suspect arrested during the exercise allegedly stole money from another suspect inside a Task Force vehicle.
The operation, which began at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday, targeted areas in Ikeja, including the LASUTH under-bridge, the Ikeja under-bridge, Ipodo Street, and the surrounding environments.
The objective was to clear out criminal elements and restore order in the area.
According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, a total of 47 suspects — 42 males and 5 females — were arrested during the operation.
However, while the suspects were being transported, one of them reportedly stole money from a fellow detainee, highlighting the depth of desperation among some of the arrested individuals.
“On Thursday (Friday), 2nd May, 2025, at about 2:30 a.m., the men from the Lagos State Environmental Task Force team embarked on its clean-up enforcement operation at Ikeja and its environs to rid the State of criminal elements,” Wahab stated in a post on X.

“During the raid exercise, one of the miscreants arrested and locked in the task force vehicle stole money belonging to another suspect in the vehicle.
Wahab added that all suspects would be charged in court in accordance with the law.
The raid is part of the ongoing campaign to sanitise public spaces and eliminate criminal activities across the metropolis.
44 individuals were arrested during a targeted clean-up and enforcement operation on Lagos Island.
The operation, which commenced at about 2:00 a.m., saw task force officials comb key areas including Falomo Bridge, Oyin Jolayemi, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ligali Ayorinde, Oniru Beach, and the 1004 Estate vicinity.
These locations were reportedly being occupied by criminal elements and street squatters, prompting the intervention.
Similarly, 71 suspects were arrested on Tuesday during a midnight raid in an operation that covered major parts of Lagos Island, including Victoria Island, Oniru, Ikoyi, Apongbon, and the Law School axis.
