Suspected herdsmen attack Benue community, kill 13 villagers
Suspected herdsmen on Sunday unleashed mayhem on the people in Azege settlement of Benue State, killing 13 residents.
The attack that reportedly occurred at 7am also resulted in burning of buildings and destruction of farmlands as well as crops.
Azege is the hometown of Hon. Benjamin Uzenda, the immediate past Caretaker Chairman of Logo Local Government.
Uzenda confirmed the attack that herdsmen had previously attempted to overrun Azege in the past two months.
He said, “They were armed with sophisticated weapons ,and immediately opened fire on residents who were preparing to attend morning church service.
“It looked like a coordinated attack as they opened fire on the harmless villagers, gunned down women and children.”
He said the attackers had fled before security agents arrived at the village.
It was also gathered that many that survived the attack were already fleeing the village.
