TCN tower vandalised, power supply disrupted in Borno, Yobe
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the vandalism of one of its critical transmission towers, Tower T347, located along the Gombe–Damaturu 330kV line, resulting in partial power disruption across parts of Borno and Yobe States.
In a statement issued on Sunday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the incident occurred at approximately 5:46 p.m. on Friday and was discovered during a routine inspection by the company’s technical team.
“The inspection team found that the tower’s legs had been deliberately cut off by vandals, causing it to lean dangerously to one side,” Mbah said.

She noted that the sabotage had affected bulk electricity supply to Maiduguri and Damaturu, including surrounding communities. However, she assured that supply was being sustained through the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), which currently feeds the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC).
Power is being distributed via major 33kV feeders such as Beneshiek, Damasak, Bama, University, Campus, Maiduguri Town, Monguno, among others. Damaturu and its environs are temporarily receiving supply from the Potiskum Substation.
TCN engineers have since been deployed to the site to commence repairs and restore normal transmission.
The company condemned the act of vandalism and called on the public to safeguard national infrastructure by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
“We appeal to Nigerians to support efforts to protect critical assets that serve the public,” Mbah added.
