Telecom operator, 9mobile, changes name again
Nigeria’s fourth-largest telecommunications operator, 9mobile, has rebranded as T2, a move aimed at revitalising its market position and driving a stronger focus on digital innovation.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Obafemi Banigbe, announced the change at an unveiling ceremony held in Lagos on Friday.
Banigbe described the new identity as “the beginning of a whole new chapter” for the company, signalling a shift toward bold innovation, digital transformation, and a customer-first philosophy.
“This is not just a brand unveiling. It marks the beginning of a whole new chapter in our company’s history.
“We are no longer who we were. We are evolving into something greater, more ambitious, and aligned with the future,” he said.
According to Banigbe, T2 will position itself not merely as a telecom provider but as a “digital lifestyle enabler” for Nigerians, offering solutions across multiple sectors.

The transformation, he noted, will see the company become “a cloud-native, data-driven, API-ready operator” capable of delivering personalised services more quickly and efficiently.
“Becoming digital is not just a cliché. It means empowering customers with tools and platforms that improve their lives,” he explained, adding that technology would give users greater control and convenience “at their fingertips.”
Banigbe said the T2 brand embodies agility, resilience, and boldness — qualities needed to succeed in today’s competitive telecom market.
Reflecting on the company’s turbulent past, he acknowledged its setbacks but said they had fuelled a stronger comeback.
“We are not ashamed of our scars. Every setback prepared us for this resurgence. We have returned sharper and more focused,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to customers, shareholders, regulators, and partners for standing by the company during challenging times, and reaffirmed T2’s commitment to delivering value and innovation.
“We are not playing catch-up. We are playing to win,” he declared.
