Tension as Shiite members storm Abuja in protest over Israeli deadly attacks
Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), known as Shiites, staged a solidarity protest in Abuja supporting Palestinians after Israel’s retaliatory attack on the Gaza Strip and Hamas fighters.
The protesters, waving Palestinian flags, gathered at Banex Plaza and Ahmadu Bello Way, openly expressing their anger against Israel even as they burnt the Israeli flag. The demonstration was a response to recent attacks by the Israel Occupation Forces on Al-Aqsa mosque and the Gaza refugee camp.

Sheikh Sidi Munir Sokoto, speaking on behalf of the movement, stated that their support for Palestine’s freedom was not limited to Muslims but extended to all people of conscience. The protest condemned Israel’s 16-year blockade of Gaza, raids in the West Bank, violence at Al-Aqsa, and the growth of settlements. It emphasized the legitimate struggle of Palestinians against 75 years of Israeli oppression.
The protesters called for condemnation of the injustice and oppression faced by Palestinians, highlighting the universal principle that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. They asserted that supporting oppressed people is a human duty and stressed the interconnectedness of humanity, emphasizing that the plight of one directly impacts all.
