Gunmen on Monday killed three personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Ngor Okpalla area of Imo State.
The incident, which reportedly took place at the Ekeisu Market in Obiangwu Community, has heightened tension in the area.
The attackers were said to have arrived ambushed NSCDC personnel in a vehicle.
Security operatives had taken over the community and were reportedly arresting youths of the community in order to fish out the culprits.
Spokesperson for the police in the state, ASP Henry Okoye, who confirmed the murder of the three security men said that bodies of the victims had been moved from the spot and normalcy restored.
