Tension mounts as Kwankwaso hints at Sanusi’s return to Kano palace

There is another apprehension in the air as former Governor of Kano State and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declared that the creation of the five emirates councils will “definitely be revisited”.

Immediate past governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had split the Kano emirate into five after he dethroned the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Although the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been silent over the reversal of Ganduje’s action, the presidential candidate of the NNPP insisted the removal of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was carried out in bad blood.

The resurgence of the call for removal of the five first class monarchs including the two sons of the late Emir. Alh. Ado Bayero dominated public discussions immediately after the verdict of the Supreme Court that affirmed the election of Abba Yusuf as Kano governor.

Kwankwaso in an interactive session with select broadcast media Thursday evening said the NNPP government will revisit the entire matter, to correct the wrongs.

“Honestly it is one of the things that nobody has sat with me to discuss so far but I am sure we are going to sit and see how to go about it,” Kwankwaso said. “Is it going to be allowed, demolished, corrected or whatever? It will be revisited, what’s supposed to be done will be done.

“There were a lot of things and this was a trap. All these things were not done in good faith or intention. It was brought with some bad intentions which everyone of you here and our listeners are aware of.

“Sometimes you come with things that are good and they turn out to be bad while sometimes you bring things that are bad and they turn out to be good.

“So, all I know is that I was not consulted as of now but definitely we will come to discuss and see what should be done.”

Apart from his declaration of total loyalty to Kwankwso, the leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, Governor Yusuf has openly affirmed that his administration is an extension of Kwankwaso’s government.
