Tension rises in ADC as faction opposes Atiku, David Mark coalition

A new faction within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has opposed a move by opposition coalition members such as former Vice President (VP); Atiku Abubakar, former senate president; David Mark e.t.c to adopt the party as their political platform.

In a statement issued by Musa Isa Matara, the faction’s national publicity secretary, he noted that the ADC is not a private coalition vehicle to be taken over by political elites.

He mentioned that the decision to merge with the opposition coalition was taken without consulting the party’s core structures, including state executives, youth and women wings, and local ward leaders.

The statement read, “We warn those coming into the ADC as part of this imposed arrangement to tread carefully.

“Be mindful that some few individuals are attempting to sell out the soul of our party for personal gain.

“The ADC is not for sale. It belongs to its members, not political merchants or elite dealmakers.”

The backlash follows a meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, July 1 where a group of opposition politicians and certain members of the ADC  reached an agreement to use the party as a common platform for a united opposition movement.

Those present at the gathering included former VP; Atiku Abubakar, former Senate president; David Mark, past governors such as: Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Sam Egwu of Ebonyi, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, and Liyel Imoke of Cross River, alongside former PDP National Chairman; Uche Secondus.
