Terrorists kill four soldiers in Sokoto ambush

In a tragic incident, four military personnel lost their lives after being ambushed by terrorists in Bachaka Kurya Forest, located in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The ambush occurred near the Nigeria-Niger border and involved troops from Operation Hadarin Daji, a military operation aimed at combating terrorism and banditry in the region.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Monday in Abuja. He detailed that during the ambush, a fierce firefight ensued, resulting in the death of several terrorists. The military was able to recover weapons and ammunition from the scene.

The statement also revealed that the attack was carried out by a terror group known as Lakurawa, which operates out of Niger Republic. “The corpses of the killed terrorists reveal that it was perpetrated by a terror group from Niger Republic known as Lakurawa,” the statement said.

Despite the loss of four soldiers, the military remains resolute, with the statement indicating that the remaining members of the terror group fled back into Niger Republic. “Troops are, however, in pursuit to find and destroy the terrorists,” it added.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by military forces in securing the border regions and combating transnational terrorism. The Nigerian military continues to engage in efforts to eliminate these threats and secure the safety of its citizens.
