The Tesla Model Y emerged Europe’s best-selling passenger car overall in November, overtaking the Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Yaris.
Tesla Model Y rebounded strongly in November 2022, becoming Europe’s best-selling car.
The latest report on the sale performance of new vehicles in Europe indicates that the Tesla Model Y recorded the massive success after falling out of top 50 in October.
The electric crossover reported 19,144 units sale – a gain of more than 260 per cent on the same month last year.
Tesla Model Y is a battery electric compact crossover first unveiled in March 2019.
The Model Y is based on the Model 3 sedan platform and shares an estimated 75 per cent of its parts with the Tesla Model 3, which includes a similar interior and exterior design and electric powertrain.
The Model Y fills a smaller and less expensive segment than the mid-sized Tesla Model X. Like the Model X, the Model Y offers optional third-row seats for a seven-passenger seating capacity.
The Model Y was also Europe’s overall top-seller in September, the report states.
Tesla’s European sales rose 97 per cent in November to 31,820 units, largely because of the 260-percent surge in sales of the Model Y.
The Model Y was the only EV on Europe’s November sale podium, with the Dacia Sandero ranking second with a volume of 18,746 (up 16 per cent) and the Toyota Yaris coming in third place with 17,309 sales (up 150 per cent).
Automotive News Europe says year-to-date, the Peugeot 208 – which also offers an all-electric variant – is Europe’s overall top-seller, with a volume of 193,743, according to Dataforce’s preliminary numbers.
The Tesla Model Y is considered an incredibly popular vehicle as it is said to combine one of the hottest vehicle segments – the compact SUV – with one of the quickest-growing trends in the industry – electric vehicles.
