Third Mainland Bridge shut again for 36 hours
A section of the Third Mainland Bridge Lagos will be shut for 36 hours shut beginning from 12am today, Wednesday March 6 to 12 noon tomorrow, Thursday March 7.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday night.
Kesha urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and apologised for any inconvenience the restrictions might cause them.
She stated, “The Federal Ministry of Works wish to inform the motoring public that in continuation of the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Third Mainland Bridge, the Island-Iyana Oworo bound traffic will be restricted.
“The restriction will be from the bridge from 12am on Wednesday, March 6 to 12-noon on Thursday, March 7, to allow the contractor execute a major aspect of the ongoing repair works on the bridge.
“Consequently, the bridge will not be opened to Iyana-Oworo bound traffic during this period.
“Thus, all road users plying this route are advised to use alternative routes during this period.
“However, Iyana-Oworo to Island bound carriageway will be free for the use of only island bound motorists throughout the period.”
Also, a statement released by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, advised motorists plying the route to use the alternative routes previously provided during this period.
‘’Kindly note that the Iyana-Oworo inwards island-bound carriageway will remain open to Motorists heading to the Island during this period.The initial traffic diversion arrangements on the bridge will return after this 36-hour closure.” part of the statement read.
