Three ‘Akala boys’ remanded for drug dealing

A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded three ‘Akala boys’ over alleged unlawful dealing in 803kg of marijuana.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke made the order following their arraignment by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA (NDLEA).

Two of the defendants, Jelili Kamoru and Sodiq Oduola, were charged together, while Adebayo Seun was charged separately. All three pleaded not guilty.

Akala Street in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Mushin Local Government Area (LGA) is regarded by security officials as one of the topmost illicit drug den in Lagos.

The trio, according to prosecution counsel, Jerry Aerna, allegedly committed the offence on October 15, 2021 at Akala Street.

Mr Aernan alleged that Kamoru, 44; Oduola, 25; Seun, 21; and others on the run, conspired and unlawfully dealt in the substance.

The court heard that the offences contravened Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
