Three Beheaded as Police Arrest 10 Suspects in Ebonyi Communal Clash

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three persons in a violent communal clash in Ebonyi State, with the victims reportedly beheaded, as security operatives arrested 10 suspects in connection with the incident.

The clash, which erupted between rival communities over a long-standing communal dispute, led to panic and displacement of residents, forcing many to flee their homes to avoid further violence.

Speaking on the incident, Police Spokesperson Joshua Ukandu said officers were swiftly deployed to the affected area following distress calls. The police noted that 10 suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody, while investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings.

The police assured residents that the situation has been brought under control, adding that those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. The command also warned against reprisals, urging youths and community leaders to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.

Reacting to the development, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, condemned the killings, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable. The governor expressed condolences to the families of the victims and vowed that his administration would not tolerate any form of communal violence or lawlessness in the state.

Governor Nwifuru directed security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of lives and property. He also called on traditional rulers and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, stressing that disputes must not be settled through violence.

The incident has once again raised concerns over recurring communal clashes in Ebonyi, with residents calling for sustained security presence and long-term solutions to address the root causes of such conflicts.
