Three die, two injured in Ogun truck, taxi collision

Three persons were killed on Sunday morning when a truck collided with a taxi in the Obada area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Two other persons sustained injury in the accident that occurred after Obada police station, along the Lagos-Abeokuta highway, at about 07:15am.

Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta, saying five male adults were involved in the crash.

She added that the vehicles involved were a Volvo mini truck with no registration number and a taxi, a Nissan car marked, AKM489ZY.

“Two persons sustained injury and unfortunately, three persons were killed. The suspected cause of the crash was route violation on the part of the truck driver as it collided with the Nissan car,” she said.

Okpe disclosed that the injured victims had been taken to a general hospital in Abeokuta for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased victims were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue.

She reported the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ahmed Umar, to have commiserated with the families of the crash victims, and advised motorists to avoid route violation.

Okpe added that Umar stressed that safety is everybody’s business, especially in this season of high vehicular movement.

“Everyone should drive cautiously and obey traffic rules and regulations,” he stated.
