Three teenage girls drowned in Jigawa pond

In a heartbreaking incident in Tulla village, Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State, three teenage girls have drowned in a pond.

The victims, identified as Fatima Sule (12), Nasiya Sale (12), and Huwaila Sa’adu (13), were reportedly attempting to harvest grass for their livestock when the tragedy occurred.

According to a statement from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State, the girls met their fate while working near the pond.

The NSCDC’s Buji Local Government Divisional Officer received an emergency call around 11:00 AM on Saturday and promptly dispatched a rescue team to the scene.

With the help of local community members, the bodies of the three girls were recovered after approximately 30 minutes of searching.

They were subsequently taken to the Tulla village Health Center, where the medical officer confirmed their deaths.

The remains were returned to their families and interred following Islamic funeral practices.

The incident has cast a pall of grief over the community, and the NSCDC has called on residents to exercise heightened caution during the rainy season to prevent similar tragedies.
