TikTok Influencer ‘Tea Tyme’ Arrested After Fatal Livestream Driving Crash

A TikTok influencer, popularly known online as Tea Tyme, has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide nearly two months after allegedly killing a pedestrian while livestreaming as she drove in a Chicago suburb in the United States.

The content creator, whose real name is Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, was taken into custody on Christmas Eve by the Zion Police Department. She was booked on two felony chargesreckless homicide and aggravated use of a communications device resulting in death.

Authorities said the charges relate to a November 3 crash in Zion, Illinois, where McCarty-Wroten allegedly struck 59-year-old Darren Lucas as he crossed an intersection. Police allege that she was livestreaming on TikTok while driving at the time of the incident.

Footage from the livestream, which later circulated widely on social media, reportedly captured the moment of impact. In the video, a loud thud is heard before McCarty-Wroten is heard exclaiming, “I just hit somebody,” moments before the stream abruptly ended. A child’s voice was also reportedly heard in the vehicle shortly before the crash.

Police confirmed that McCarty-Wroten called 911 immediately after the collision and remained at the scene, cooperating with responding officers. Lucas was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The case sparked widespread public outrage online, especially after reports that the influencer continued posting on social media in the days following the incident. Investigators said the arrest followed a review of livestream footage, digital evidence, and witness accounts.

The Zion Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing, stressing that the charges highlight growing concerns over distracted driving and the dangers of livestreaming behind the wheel.
