Tinubu Appoints Odusote as First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

The appointment, announced in a statement on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a four-year tenure.

Dr. Odusote, currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure expires on January 9, 2026.

Born in 1971, Odusote obtained her LL.B. degree from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later earned an LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law from the same institution before proceeding to the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, where she obtained a PhD in Law, specialising in Public Law and Justice Administration.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks, serving in key roles including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She also served briefly as a Visiting Scholar at Nottingham Trent University, UK.

According to the statement, as Director-General, Odusote will provide overall academic leadership, oversee administrative management, and shape the strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all its campuses nationwide.

She will also act as the principal link between the Law School and critical legal bodies, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
