Tinubu Govt Flags Off Nationwide Patriotism Campaign ‘My Nigeria, My Responsibility’
The Federal Government has launched a nationwide civic campaign titled “My Nigeria, My Responsibility”, designed to transform patriotism from a passive sentiment into daily action and national commitment.
The initiative was unveiled at the State House, Abuja, by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony. The campaign aims to rebuild a culture of responsible citizenship, urging Nigerians to take ownership of the country’s development, global reputation, and democratic progress.
Describing patriotism as “an active verb,” the Minister said it must be demonstrated through personal integrity, accountable conduct, and truthful public engagement. He noted that responsible citizenship extends to paying taxes, adding: “Patriotism is in the taxes you pay… When you pay your fair share, you are directly investing in schools, roads, and security.”

Idris stressed that Nigeria’s future rests on the actions of its over 200 million citizens, not just its leaders. He referenced President Tinubu’s long-standing defence of democracy and reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reform, tax justice initiatives, and digital revenue mobilization, describing them as necessary steps toward national transformation.
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public awareness, the Minister announced that the National Media and Information Literacy Institute will be inaugurated in February 2026 to help citizens verify information, counter misinformation, and engage responsibly online.
He urged Nigerians to uphold the values outlined in the new Citizens’ Charter of National Values, including integrity, patriotism, diligence, tolerance, and excellence.
Calling the initiative a collective responsibility, Idris said: “The President is providing the canvas of stability and vision; the rest of us must pick up the brush… My Nigeria, My Responsibility.”
