Tinubu holds crucial meeting with Wike, Akpabio, Umahi
President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a meeting with three former governors, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, who is also a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
Details of the meeting that took place at the State House, Abuja, were not immediately disclosed.
Last week, Wike met the President in company with James Ibori, a former governor of Delta, and Seyi Makinde, incumbent governor of Oyo State.
Umahi and Akpabio are two newly elected senators and have shown interest to lead the Senate.
Sources said the composition of the new national assembly leadership must be top on the agenda of the meeting with President Tinubu.
The issue has been on the front burner since Tinubu was inaugurated as President of Nigeria last week.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) favoured Akpabio and Barau Jibrin, senator representing Kano North, as senate president and deputy respectively.
In the lower legislative chamber, the party nominated Tajudeen Abbas, a lawmaker from Kaduna, and Benjamin Kalu, lawmaker from Imo, as speaker and deputy.
But the party’s position did not go down well with some APC lawmakers-elect who are nursing ambitions to become presiding officers in the 10th national assembly.
