Tinubu meets Bill Gates, Dangote, promises to focus on healthcare
President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the Co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, and the President of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu promised that his administration would prioritise the health and safety of Nigerians, according to a statement
by his Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake.
Gates, one of the world’s most prominent private investors in the global healthcare system, is in Nigeria to discuss issues around health and development in the country.
His visit is part of the Foundation’s commitment “to work closely with communities and leaders to support innovation that can help accelerate progress and improve lives across Africa.”
At the meeting, Tinubu applauded the commitment of the Gates Foundation in working for humanity and commended the partnership with Aliko Dangote Foundation.
He said his administration would do all that is required to make their work in Nigeria and Africa successful, particularly in the area of eradicating polio, measles, malaria and other diseases from the continent.
He noted that budgetary constraints and other issues around funding were some of the major challenges adversely affecting the country’s health sector.
Tinubu however told Gates that more work was needed in the area of climate change and polio eradication in developing countries.
He said, “The West needed to hear more from him with respect to the plight of the developing countries, saying ‘you have all it takes to help developing nations more’.”
