Tinubu now ready to address the nation over hunger protest
President Bola Tinubu has finally bowed to pressure of many opinion leaders and reputable groups on the urgent need to address the nation over ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests that reached its third day on Saturday.
The President would address Nigerians on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7am, his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said in a statement.
“Television, radio, and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to plug into the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.
“The broadcast will be repeated on the network services of the NTA and the FRCN at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the same day,” Ngelale said.
The youths in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other state capitals across the country have taken to the streets since Thursday August 1st, protesting the hardship facing the people and rising cost of living.
The protest is meant to last for 10 days.
They made a number of demands including reversing the removal of fuel subsidy.
The protest has turned violent in some states leading to loss of lives, vandalism and looting.
This has prompted states such as Borno, Jigawa, Nasarawa and Yobe to impose indefinite curfew.
