Tinubu orders review of N8,000 palliative for the poor
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review of the planned distribution of a monthly cash grant of N8,000 to 12 million households for six months as a way to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
The review is coming in reaction to public criticism of the policy.
“The President has directed that…the N8,000 conditional cash transfer programmed envisaged to bring succour to most vulnerable households be reviewed immediately,” Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Dele Alake, said in a statement issued Tuesday night.
He said the new directive was “deference to the views expressed by Nigerians against it.”
He also ordered the immediate release of fertilisers and grains to about 50 million farmers and households in all 36 states and the FCT.
