Tinubu Orders Urgent Rescue of Remaining Students Abducted from Niger School

President Bola Tinubu has instructed Nigeria’s security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue of the 115 remaining students of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara LGA of Niger State, still held captive by kidnappers.

The directive was contained in a statement on Monday by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the President commended security operatives for their “tireless efforts” in securing the release of 100 out of the 265 abductees, including all 12 teachers.

Tinubu said the federal government remains fully committed to collaborating with state governments to improve school safety nationwide.

“I have been briefed on the safe return of 100 students from the Catholic school in Niger State. I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for ensuring the safe return of the students since the unfortunate incident on November 21,” the President said.

Reaffirming his directive, Tinubu stated:
“My instruction to our security forces remains unchanged — all the students and every abducted Nigerian must be rescued unharmed. We must account for every victim.”

He added that the federal government will work closely with Niger State and others to secure schools and prevent future attacks.
“Our children can no longer be sitting ducks for heartless terrorists intent on disrupting their education and inflicting trauma on families,” Tinubu said.

The federal government on Sunday confirmed the release of 100 schoolchildren, two weeks after gunmen invaded the school at about 2 a.m. on November 21, abducting 315 persons — 303 students and 12 teachers — in an attack that lasted three hours.
Within the first 24 hours, 50 students escaped, while rescue efforts continued for the others.
