Tinubu swears in two new ministers, reaffirms economic and security commitments

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday officially inducted Dr Bernard Doro and Dr Kingsley Udeh into the Federal Executive Council (FEC), restoring ministerial representation for Plateau and Enugu states.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, commenced at 1:52 p.m., shortly before the first FEC meeting since July 2025. With their inauguration, the total number of ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet now stands at 48.

Dr Bernard Doro, a UK-trained clinical expert and public health administrator, replaces Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Yilwatda vacated the post on July 31 after assuming the role of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress. Doro, a native of Kwall in Plateau State, brings over two decades of experience in medicine, pharmacy, and digital health, having worked extensively with the UK’s National Health Service. He holds degrees in Pharmacy, Law, and Advanced Clinical Practice.

Dr Kingsley Udeh, formerly Enugu State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, succeeds Uche Nnaji as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. Nnaji resigned on October 7 amid controversy surrounding his academic credentials. Udeh, recently conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was nominated on November 4 and swiftly confirmed by the Senate.

Following the oath-taking, President Tinubu presided over the FEC meeting, where Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, briefed the council on recent economic milestones.

Edun highlighted Nigeria’s successful re-entry into the international capital market, noting that the $2.35 billion Eurobond issuance was oversubscribed by 453%, attracting $13 billion in bids. He outlined the next phase of economic reforms, which will focus on removing investment barriers, reviewing tariffs and import policies, and optimizing national assets.

“We are improving fiscal reporting and budget realism, tightening expenditure frameworks and ensuring reform gains are made available to all Nigerians,” Edun said.

President Tinubu welcomed the positive economic outlook and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and fostering a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
