Tinubu, Trump to meet over allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria — Presidency
President Bola Tinubu and United States President Donald Trump are expected to hold a high-level meeting in the coming days to address growing concerns over allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria, according to Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication.
The announcement follows recent remarks by President Trump accusing the Nigerian government of ignoring attacks on Christian communities. Trump’s comments, which have sparked global debate, included threats of potential military action and suspension of U.S. aid to Nigeria.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Bwala emphasized that both leaders share a strong commitment to combating terrorism and insurgency. He noted that the U.S., under Trump’s previous administration, had approved arms sales to Nigeria — a move that Tinubu’s government has leveraged in its counterterrorism efforts.

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing the sale of arms to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show for it,” Bwala stated.
He added that the upcoming meeting, which may take place either at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington, will also address the contentious issue of whether extremist groups in Nigeria target Christians exclusively or attack people of all faiths.
“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences, if they exist, would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders,” Bwala said.
The presidency has yet to confirm the exact date and location of the meeting, but officials say it will be a crucial step toward clarifying Nigeria’s position and strengthening bilateral cooperation on security.
