Tobi Amusan continues winning run, clinches100m Hurdles gold in Berlin meet
World record holder Tobi Amusan dominated the women’s 100m hurdles at the ISTAF 2022 Berlin meeting on Sunday, 4 September, winning in a time of 12.45 seconds.
The meet is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver level series.
Amusan entered Sunday’s race on the back of a second-place performance at the 2022 Lausanne Diamond League meeting last month, but said she was confident of bouncing back at the Olympic Stadium this weekend.
The Nigerian standout got off to a strong start to build a sizable lead and then powered away to secure the victory.
She hit the last hurdle and was pictured limping at the end of the race, even minutes after her celebrations. But, the world champion revealed afterward that she was okay and is now looking forward to her next competition at the 2022 Wanda Diamond League final in Zurich later this week.
American two-time world junior champion Tia Jones finished strongly over the closing barriers to take second place with a time of 12.58 while Olympic bronze medalist Megan Tapper of Jamaica was pushed back into third place in 12.66.
Amusan said after her victory: “It has been a long season, but I am still alive. I just wanted to finish strong today. I was here to execute.
“I need to work on what I need to work on, but it is alright. There is always room for improvement. I need to improve my start and my finish.
“I will race again in Zurich. Today we had a great competitive field. My goal was to focus on myself.”
Amusan won the world title in Oregon in July with the fastest time in any conditions at 12.06 seconds, hours after running 12.12 seconds to set the current world record in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, the top German finisher was Isabel Mayer who ran a personal best time of 13.24 to better the 13.25 she clocked in June.
“It could not have been better for me today,” said Mayer. “I was super excited because the German Championships here were a bit traumatic for me. I felt very good today.
“I just wanted to have fun and that worked out today.”

Salah scores brace as Trabzonspor beat Basaksehir 2-1
Mohamed Salah marked his first Turkish Super Lig start for Trabzonspor in style, scoring twice as the club defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 on Sunday.
The Egyptian forward opened his account for Trabzonspor in the eighth minute before adding a second goal early in the second half to secure the club’s first Super Lig victory of the season.
Salah, 34, had previously made his league debut for Trabzonspor as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Kasimpasa. He also started the club’s Europa League play-off first leg against Ferencvaros before earning a starting role against Basaksehir.
The former Liverpool star needed just eight minutes to break the deadlock. He capitalised on an error by Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer, reacting quickly to put the ball into the net.
Basaksehir responded in the 19th minute when Eldor Shomurodov converted a penalty to level the score at 1-1.
Salah restored Trabzonspor’s lead three minutes after the restart. He combined with Ernest Muçi before producing a first-time finish to make it 2-1.

The Egyptian forward came close to completing a hat-trick, but two further efforts were ruled out. One was disallowed for a foul, while another late effort was ruled offside.
Salah also received a yellow card after the referee judged that he had simulated a foul inside the penalty area.
Despite missing out on a hat-trick, his brace proved decisive as Trabzonspor secured their first Turkish Super Lig win of the season.
The performance also provided an impressive start to Salah’s new chapter in Turkish football following his departure from Liverpool after nine seasons with the Premier League club.
Trabzonspor will now turn their attention to the Europa League play-off, where they face Ferencvaros in the second leg after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first encounter.
