Tompolo defies Tinubu, buys frontpages of nine newspapers to mark
President’s birthday
In defiance of a directive of President Bola Tinubu, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on Friday bought the frontpages of at least nine national newspapers to celebrate the 72nd birthday of the President Bola Tinubu.
The Presidency on Sunday said the President would not want any lavish celebration and no adverts for his 72nd birthday on March 29 in view of the melancholic mood of the nation.
Tinubu also “enjoins friends and associates who may wish to place goodwill advertorials to kindly donate the money to charity organisations of their choice in his name”.
But Tompolo on Friday placed birthday messages for Tinubu on the frontpages of at least eight national dailies.
Tompolo, it was learnt, must have spent an average of N10 million for each of the front-page advert.
Tompolo is the chairperson of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, an oil pipeline surveillance firm that tackles crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
