Toyota returns with Land Cruiser US spec, releases teaser photos
Toyota says the Land Cruiser nameplate is set to return to the United States showrooms after a two-year hiatus.
Ahead of the unveiling of the redesigned model for the 2025 edition, Toyota has released some teaser photos of its new Land Cruiser, the US spec.
From the new images, the vehicle will have close ties with the recently revealed 2024 Lexus GX.
The two models have a nearly identical profile, with an upright windshield, a side window line that kicks up near the rear door, and a squared-off rearmost pillar.
The Toyota’s front end is however expected to look quite different from the Lexus.
The teaser photos also show the new Land Cruiser alongside a classic FJ40 model, meaning Toyota is sure to play up the nameplate’s off-road history.
This is coming just weeks after Toyota released a video showing vintage Land Cruiser badges and the tagline “The legend returns,” according motorauthority.com.
The Land Cruiser nameplate bowed out of the US after 2021 while the rest of the world received a redesigned 300-series generation for 2022.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is expected to share the TNGA-F body-on-frame architecture with the Lexus GX and various other SUVs and pickups from the Japanese automaker.
Carscoops.com notes that despite the obvious similarities with the Lexus GX, the new Land Cruiser appears to wear redesigned body panels, in a quest to differentiate it from its sibling.
The front end is boxier with the smaller and lower-mounted headlights likely merging with the grille.
At the back, the larger retro taillights and the protruding bumper are reminiscent of previous Land Cruiser generations, with a nostalgic touch. The interior will most likely offer a three-row seven-seater configuration, combining practicality with the latest tech features from Toyota’s parts bin.
In terms of powertrains, chances are that the Land Cruiser will come fitted with the twin-turbo 3.4-litre V6 that makes 349hp (260 kW/354 PS) in the Lexus GX, and possibly with the i-Force Max hybrid V6 option that produces a combined 437hp (326 kW/443 PS) in the electrified Toyota Sequoia.
In any case, power will be transmitted to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic and a full-time 4WD system.
