The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of the Ladipo Spare Parts Market, located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, citing persistent environmental violations.

The closure was confirmed on Sunday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on social media.

According to Wahab, the enforcement action followed repeated infractions by market operators, including indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians and highways and illegal street trading activities around the market corridor.

“The exercise is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to uphold environmental standards, restore order to public spaces, and curb practices that pose risks to public health and safety,” Wahab stated.

Officials noted that Ladipo Market, a major hub for automobile spare parts in Mushin, had previously been cautioned and sanctioned for similar violations but failed to comply with environmental regulations.

The government reiterated that all markets and business operators in Lagos State must strictly adhere to waste management and environmental laws, warning that defaulters will face continued enforcement actions.

Residents and traders have been advised to cooperate with authorities, dispose of waste properly, and comply with regulations, as the state intensifies its campaign against environmental abuse and street trading.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until the market complies fully with environmental standards and waste management regulations, as the state works to maintain public health and safety along major commercial corridors.
