Tragedy, FRSC officer, 17 others die in Ogun road crash
A tragic multi-vehicle collision along the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road in Gbaga claimed 18 lives on Saturday, including that of an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The fatal incident, which occurred around 4:00 p.m., was confirmed by FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Mrs. Florence Okpe, in a statement released from Abeokuta.
According to Okpe, the crash involved seven vehicles: a Toyota Hiace bus (AGL 752 YC), a Daf truck (T14007L), a Honda car (HT680), an unregistered Daf truck, a pickup van (STF10204), and two motorcycles (AGG 448 Q and PKA 214 WS).
She explained that the collision was triggered by a Toyota bus attempting an unlawful overtaking maneuver, which led to a head-on collision with one of the trucks.

“During the rescue operation, the unregistered Daf truck suffered brake failure and rammed into an FRSC official, killing him instantly,” she said.
The runaway truck also struck a parked pickup, the Honda car, and both motorcycles, worsening the already devastating scene.
Okpe reported that 22 individuals were involved in the crash. “18 died and four others were injured,” she said.
The injured victims were taken to Dasochris Hospital in Gbaga for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were transferred to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu.
Reacting to the tragedy, Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin expressed deep concern over the recurring pattern of reckless driving.
He appealed to motorists to drive responsibly. “He urged motorists to obey road signs and maintain speed limits to prevent such avoidable tragedies.”
