Tragedy in Abia, man killed youth for playing football near his residence
One Stephen Irobunda on Saturday allegedly murdered a youth in Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State.
The victim, Bright Odizuru, was shot dead by 70-year-old Irobunda during a confrontation between him and some youths in the community.
Locals privy to the matter said the deceased together with other youths, were playing football near Irobunda’s house during local government election, which enraged the suspect.
It was gathered that the man fired shots in the air to scare away the youths.
Infuriated by the act, the youths went back to Irobunda house to know why he was trying to intimidate them with gunshots.

At that point, the man drew his gun again and shot one of the youths, Bright Odizuru in his abdomen, leading to his death in a hospital.
The death of the young man infuriated the Ohokobe Mbaocha youths who pounced on the suspect and attempted to lynch him before he was rescued by security agents.
Not done, the youths also tried to set his house ablaze, but were calmed down by the security agents.
The spokesperson of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka confirmed the killing.
“Police have such reports, crime scene has been visited and investigation is ongoing at SCID”, she said
