Travellers stranded as Gombe-Bauchi road caves in
Many travellers using busy Gombe-Bauchi highway were on Sunday stranded after an early morning heavy rain that rendered the road impassable.
Indeed, it was learnt that the portion of the road caved in due to the deluge of flood from the downpour.
Leadership in a report revealed that some travellers had to cancel their trips as they turned back while others decided to make use of Dukku road, another dilapidated road, which is a longer route to Bauchi.
The bridge along the Gombe-Bauchi Road at Bara village has repeatedly collapsed during rainy season, disrupting movements to and from the two neighbouring states.
The bridge collapsed three times last year and was only mended partially.
Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, recently said the Federal Government intended to rebuild the road in the next six months.
He said he got a commitment from the FG that it was part of the projects the administration of President Bola Tinubu would execute in the six geopolitical zones of the country.
