Tribute as foremost broadcaster Jika Attoh dies in Enugu
Ace broadcast journalist and communication expert, Jika Attoh, is dead.The legendary figure in the broadcasting community in Nigeria died in Enugu in the late hours of Wednesday, October 25, 2023.He was reportedly dead at a private hospital in New Haven, Enugu.
His death was announced by one of his siblings who shared the news with close allies of the foremost broadcaster.
A native of Onitsha in neighbouring Anambra State, Jika Atoh came to national prominence as the pioneer presenter of AIT flagship programme Kakaaki in the 1990s.
A former newscaster at Channels Television, Jika Atoh was in his early 70s at the time of his demise.
He later moved to Cosmos FM Enugu as pioneer General Manager, successfully turning it into the first broadcast outlet to run 24 hours in the South East.
He was until his death a tutor at West Africa Broadcast and Media Academy (WABMA).
Dr Uche Nworah, a former managing director of the Anambra Broadcasting Corporation, in a tribute, says, “Jika Attoh was a good man, a professional communicator, broadcaster and fine gentleman.”
He recalls, “In 2014, after Chief Willie Obiano, former Governor of Anambra state gave me the opportunity and hired me to serve Ndi Anambra as the MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), following a nationwide competitive recruitment process, Jika Attoh was the man I ran to to help train some of our staff.”
