Troops, Air Force Neutralise 23 Bandits Fleeing Kano After Deadly Attacks

Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), with support from the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised at least 23 bandits who fled Kano State following coordinated attacks on Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Maj. Zubairu Babatunde, said the bandits launched the attacks late on Thursday night, with violence spilling into the early hours of Friday.

According to the army, ground troops successfully repelled the attacks, inflicting heavy casualties on the assailants before tracking the fleeing bandits to Karaduwa village in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Intelligence reports later revealed that the bandits had regrouped at Dan Marke in Matazu LGA to bury some of their members killed during the confrontation with troops.

“The Air Component Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma identified the bandits and trailed their movement until their motorcycles converged after crossing a dry river bed,” Babatunde said.

“A precision airstrike was subsequently carried out, resulting in the neutralisation of no fewer than 23 terrorists, while several others were believed to have sustained injuries.”

He added that the operation, supported by aerial Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, also led to the destruction of weapons and logistics belonging to the bandits.

The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended both the air and ground forces for their courage and determination, describing their conduct during the operation as exemplary.

Babatunde said the security situation in Kano State remains calm, with troops maintaining robust patrols and surveillance across affected areas. He added that troop morale and operational effectiveness were “very satisfactory.”

The Nigerian Army also appreciated the cooperation of members of the public and urged citizens to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, reaffirming the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining pressure against banditry and terrorism.
