The Defence Headquarters has officially confirmed the elimination of four notorious terrorist commanders in recent air strikes, marking a significant blow to the terrorist network.

Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided details of the successful operations.

In a statement, Maj.-Gen. Buba revealed, “Machika was a top terrorist bomb expert and younger brother of a notorious terrorist (Dogo Gide) while Haro and Dan Muhammadu were specialists in kidnapping and assault operations respectively.”

The military carried out a synchronized strike on December 11, targeting the notorious terrorist leader Kachalla Ali Kawaje, also known as Ali Alhaji Alheri, who was responsible for the abduction of students from the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara. Buba confirmed that Kachalla was neutralized in Munya Local Government Area of Niger, along with many of his associates.

Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to tracking down other prominent terrorist leaders, stating, “The armed forces are hunting down prominent terrorist leaders and engaging them wherever they are hiding. The military will continue to take the fight to the terrorists and their cohorts until they are destroyed or surrendered.”

The statement also highlighted operations in the South East, where a prominent commander of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) was apprehended. The arrested commander, Mr Uchechukwu Akpa, was planning to take over leadership from the previously apprehended former Commander, known as “Chocho,” and was involved in plotting attacks on troop locations.

Maj.-Gen. Buba provided details of the operations in the Niger Delta area, where troops destroyed multiple illegal refining sites and confiscated significant quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products. The operations resulted in the arrest of 66 individuals involved in oil theft, as well as the rescue of 89 kidnapped hostages.
