Troops gun down ISWAP commander in Borno

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, Nigerian troops have successfully eliminated a top commander of the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP), Malam Jidda.

The operation, carried out by the Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, marks another major success in the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in Borno State and the wider Northeast region.

Malam Jidda was a high-ranking figure within ISWAP, known for orchestrating several deadly attacks and insurgent activities in the region. His death is considered a major blow to the terrorist group, which has been responsible for years of violence and instability in the Northeast.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert in a post on X said the troops conducted a massive onslaught against terrorists in Ngazalgana village in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to Makama, the terrorist commander who was identified as the Amerr, meaning the leader of Ngorgore and Malumti villages was eliminated.

Following the encounter, the troops also recovered arms and ammunition including AK-47 riffles, motorcycles and magazines from the terrorists.

“In another operation on the Timbuktu Triangle axis, a snap ambush team deployed by troops engaged Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements in a swift and decisive encounter.

“Some of the terrorists were neutralised, while troops recovered additional AK-47 rifles and various categories of ordnance,” Makama added.
