Troops Kill 6 Terrorists Rescue Kidnapped Minor in Zamfara Forest Offensive
Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised six terrorists and rescued a kidnapped minor during a coordinated military offensive in Zamfara State, as security forces intensify operations against banditry and kidnapping in the North-West.
The operation, carried out in the Sububu Forest axis of Maradun Local Government Area, followed actionable intelligence on the movement of armed groups terrorising nearby communities. Military sources said troops engaged the terrorists in multiple encounters, leading to the elimination of six fighters and the recovery of weapons, ammunition and motorcycles used for criminal operations.
During the clearance exercise, soldiers successfully rescued a young girl abducted by the terrorists, marking another humanitarian gain in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign. The rescued minor has since been reunited with her family, while troops continue to dominate the area to prevent a regrouping of fleeing elements.

The Zamfara operation comes amid wider military offensives across the North-West, where troops have recently rescued dozens of abducted victims in Zamfara and neighbouring Kebbi State, dealing further blows to armed gangs operating from forest hideouts. Security agencies say these sustained offensives are aimed at dismantling terrorist camps, supply routes and safe havens used for kidnapping and extortion.
Despite recent successes, authorities acknowledge that armed attacks and ambushes remain a challenge in parts of Zamfara, underscoring the volatile security situation. Analysts say the latest operation highlights a renewed push by the military to combine aggressive ground assaults, intelligence-led raids and rescue missions to curb insecurity in the region.
The military has reiterated its commitment to protecting civilians and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across Zamfara State.
