Troops Kill Notorious Boko Haram Commander, Repel Terrorist Infiltration in Borno
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have foiled an early-morning attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists advancing from the Mandara Mountains to infiltrate Bitta community in Borno State, killing a notorious insurgent commander and several fighters in a decisive military engagement.
A military source disclosed that the encounter occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on December 18, 2025, after troops used advanced surveillance systems to detect the movement of the terrorists.
“Exercising tactical restraint, our forces allowed the terrorists to move into an effective engagement range before unleashing coordinated fire,” the source said. “Several insurgents, including a top commander and his cameraman, were neutralised.”

As the surviving terrorists attempted to withdraw, Nigerian Air Force airstrikes were deployed, destroying their escape routes and inflicting further casualties. Evidence at the scene, including blood trails and shallow graves, suggested additional terrorist losses.
During the operation, troops recovered a cache of arms and logistics, including AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, bandoliers, communication radios, ammunition magazines, mobile phones, motorcycles, bicycles, and a camcorder used for propaganda.
The source said the operation dealt a significant blow to the operational capacity of Boko Haram and ISWAP, reaffirming the military’s resolve to deny terrorists freedom of movement and protect civilian communities.
“The morale and fighting efficiency of our troops remain high as sustained operations continue to enhance security in the North-East,” the source added.
