Troops repel major Boko Haram/ISWAP attack in Chibok, kill scores in NAF airstrikes
Troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4 under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled a major attack launched by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Saturday.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South), whose constituency includes Chibok, confirmed the incident, stating that he received a distress call from one of his coordinators. He said two civilians were killed, while a local church was burnt in Kwada village during the assault.
Military sources disclosed that the terrorists carried out a coordinated multi-front attack around 3:00 a.m., attempting to breach defensive positions and overwhelm deployed troops. Soldiers engaged them in a fierce two-hour gun battle, forcing the insurgents to retreat toward the Timbuktu Triangle.
“The troops were alert and professionally contained the attack. There was no casualty on our side, and no equipment was affected,” a military source said.

Following the retreat, ground troops requested air support, prompting the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to launch decisive air interdictions along the terrorists’ withdrawal route. Credible sources confirmed that NAF combat aircraft conducted at least four major airstrikes, neutralising scores of fleeing terrorists based on real-time intelligence from OPHK ground forces.
The first wave of strikes targeted a regrouping cluster of insurgents, while subsequent strikes hit additional pockets of fighters dispersing into forested terrain. An unmanned aerial platform also carried out precision strikes, maintaining continuous ISR coverage and further degrading the terrorists’ movement.
Senator Ndume sympathised with the affected families and communities, calling on the military and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore lasting peace across Southern Borno and the country.
“It is unfortunate that Boko Haram/ISWAP invaded some communities in Chibok this morning. Although they were repelled by troops, two people were killed and a church was razed in Kwada village,” Ndume said.
