Truck crushes conductor to death in Umuahia

A truck driver on Wednesday crushed his conductor to death in Umuahia, the Imo State capital.
The acccident occurred around 7.30am opposite the Abia Line Transport Network.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver who was conveying sand got to the spot and slowed down to pick the conductor who had flagged him down.
While the conductor was trying to open the vehicle’s front door to board the slowly-moving lorry, his hand slipped off and the back tyre ran over him.
The conductor died on the spot following serious injuries he sustained as the tyre crushed his spinal cord, hands and neck region.
The driver seeing the gory sight began to cry.
The conductor was said to be a kinsman of the driver.
He later rushed to report the matter to the police who arrived at the scene and evacuated the corpse.
