Truck loses brakes, falls off Lagos bridge
A man was seriously injured on Saturday when a truck laden with toner printing materials veered off the Oshodi Bridge in Lagos and crashed into a ditch below.
The incident occurred as the vehicle descended from Oshodi-Oke en route to Mile 2. Eyewitnesses said the truck lost control after its brakes reportedly failed, causing it to tumble off the bridge and land near the terminal.
Spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the injured victim was promptly rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“The unfortunate incident, which could have culminated in catastrophic casualties, was swiftly mitigated through the prompt, professional, and coordinated intervention of LASTMA personnel who arrived at the scene within minutes,” Taofiq said.
He added that the truck driver was arrested and handed over to officers at the Makinde Police Station for further investigation into the brake failure and other contributing factors.
According to preliminary findings, the truck suffered a critical mechanical fault while descending the bridge, leading to the crash.
LASTMA operatives cordoned off the scene, diverted traffic, and supervised the removal of the wreckage to restore normalcy.
Taofiq praised the swift response of the agency’s officers, saying their actions helped prevent secondary collisions and ensured the safety of other road users.
