Trump revokes Harvard’s certification to enroll international students
In a dramatic move, the Trump administration has announced the revocation of Harvard University’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), effectively ending the institution’s ability to enroll international students.
The decision was made public on Thursday by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem via a post on X (formerly Twitter). She cited the university’s alleged failure to comply with federal laws as the primary reason for the action.
Secretary Noem also leveled serious accusations against Harvard, claiming the university has created an unsafe campus environment, exhibited hostility towards Jewish students, shown support for Hamas, and promoted what she described as “racist DEI initiatives.”
“Let this serve as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country,” she wrote.

The Ivy League university, however, denounced the allegations, describing them as retaliatory action that threatens its community.
In a statement issued shortly after the announcement, Havard reaffirmed its commitment to campus safety, academic freedom, and support for all students, regardless of background or nationality.
“We are fully committed to maintaining Harvard’s ability to host our international students and scholars, who hail from more than 140 countries and enrich the University – and this nation – immeasurably.”
“We are working quickly to provide guidance and support to members of our community. This retaliatory action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country and undermines Harvard’s academic and research mission, ” It said.
