Two people have been confirmed dead in a canoe accident recorded at Zangon Durgu village, in the Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State fire service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said the boat was conveying four people from Zangon Durgu to Kanya village when it capsized.
He added that 35-year-old Sani Shitu and Jabir Sani were rescued alive, while Sha’aban Bala and Rabi’u Bashari were confirmed dead by health officials, saying the bodies were handed over to the vice chairman of Rimin Gado Local Government Area, Shafi’u Abdullahi Gulu.
In December 2021, a boat conveying passengers mostly students from Badau to Bagwai town capsized leading to the death of over 40 people.
The tragedy led to the ban of canoes in the area by the Kano State Government, as a similar accident had happened on the same axis 13 years ago, leading to the death of many people.
