Two Women Arrested for Attempted Drug Smuggling into Kano Correctional Centre
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.
The suspects, Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, aged 19 and 20, were intercepted on December 21, 2025, during routine security checks while trying to gain access to the facility. Preliminary investigations revealed that the substances in their possession were suspected to be illegal drugs intended for inmates.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer, Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nassarawa, said the arrest forms part of the Service’s ongoing efforts to prevent the entry of prohibited items into custodial centres. He emphasized that such acts violate NCoS regulations and are criminal offences under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Following the arrest, the women were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Correctional Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict security and discipline in and around custodial facilities and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on illegal activities. The public was urged to strictly comply with the rules governing visits to correctional centres, with warnings that violations would be met with legal consequences.
