UNILORIN mourns five victims of auto crash on campus

A fatal auto crash occurred on the main campus of the University of Ilorin on Monday night, killing four persons instantly.

Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, reports said.

The accident occurred at about 10pm on the main campus of the institution, DAILY POST reports.

Two of the deceased victims were students and two others said to be a couple were on board a Korope mini bus when the accident occurred.

Unconfirmed reports said that the fifth injured person involved in the accident died on Tuesday, raising the death toll to five.

The management of the University of Ilorin in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesman, Kunle Akogun, said it received with sadness news of the unfortunate auto accident that occurred on campus on Monday evening.

According to him, “The said accident resulted in some fatalities while some occupants of the cars involved also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“We commiserate with the parents of the deceased and beseech Almighty God to comfort them in this trying period.

“We also condole the entire student body of the University on the sad loss of their colleagues.

“Management also wishes the injured quick and total recovery,” the statement added.

The management of the institution enjoined all vehicle users to strictly abide by traffic rules and regulations, especially as they concern speed limits.
