The National Emergency Management Agency on Sunday confirmed the death of two people in a seven-storey uncompleted building that collapsed on Oba Idowu Oniru Street in the Lekki area of Lagos State, with four construction workers still trapped under the rubbles.
South-West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, disclosed this, adding that rescue operations were still ongoing for the remaining trapped persons.
Emergency responders at the scene are from the Nigeria Police Force, NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service and the Lagos State Building Control Agency.
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu had earlier said six people were reportedly trapped under the collapsed structure.
“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an uncompleted seven-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He added, “The agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State Response plan.”
