Updated: Four persons rescued from Abuja collapsed building
Four persons were immediately rescued after a section of a two-storey residential apartment collapsed in Abuja on Saturday morning.
Many other people are still reportedly trapped in the rubble even as search and rescue operations were ongoing as of 4pm on Saturday.
The building is beside Cupid Hotel, Sultan Dansuki Road, Phase 2, Site 2, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Saturday incident occurred barely 24 hours after a school building collapsed on pupils in Jos, Plateau State, killing 22 and injuring 132 others.
Two of the rescued victims have been taken to the Kubwa General hospital while search efforts for other persons possibly trapped in the collapsed building were being intensified.
The collapsed building, which contained 45 self-contained rooms, was previously used as a hotel before it was converted for residential purposes.
The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) was reportedly notified of the incident by passers-by and received a distress call on emergency toll free number at about 6.45am.
