FRSC officer who slapped Osun motorist recalled, faces panel
A patrol officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps who was captured in a camera slapping a motorist in Osun State has been summoned to face an investigation panel.
Already, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Biu, has ordered immediate recall of the patrol team involved in the assault and condemned the action of the officer.
A video of an officer of the corps slapping the motorist in Osun State went viral on Tuesday.
The officer was reportedly angered by the driver’s complaint that he damaged his car’s windscreen.
The video shared by a Twitter user was captioned, “FRSC officer slaps motorist who confronted him for allegedly breaking his windscreen in Osun State.”
In the video, the motorist could be heard saying, “You slapped me after breaking my windscreen and I didn’t do anything, Mr MJ Oni.”
FRSC reacts
The FRSC boss Biu in a statement on Wednesday by the spokesman for the corps, Bisi Kazeem, said, “The provocative act as captured on camera is a complete contravention of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ standard operating procedures for officers on patrol operations.”
He also “directed the Corps Intelligence Office as well as the Corps Provost Office to commence, with immediate effect, a full and comprehensive investigation into the entire circumstances that propelled the officer into the uncivil act and make necessary recommendations for swift administrative action.”
He stated that FRSC is an ISO-certified organisation which would neither condone any act of indiscipline nor compromise standards.
