US Delivers Military Supplies to Nigeria, Boosts Anti-Terrorism Operations

Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, insurgency, and banditry has received a major boost following the delivery of critical military supplies from the United States government, strengthening the long-standing US–Nigeria security partnership.

The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) via a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to AFRICOM, the delivery was aimed at supporting Nigeria’s ongoing counterterrorism operations and enhancing joint security efforts.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” the statement read.

The military assistance comes at a time when Nigerian security forces are intensifying operations against terrorist groups, armed bandits, and other criminal networks, particularly in the North-East, North-West, and parts of the North-Central regions.

The latest delivery follows a high-level diplomatic and security engagement between both countries. In November 2025, the Federal Government dispatched a delegation to Washington, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, where it met with senior US defence and security officials.

During the visit, the Nigerian delegation addressed concerns surrounding the country’s security challenges and dismissed claims of targeted killings of Christians in Nigeria, warning that such narratives could fuel religious tension and national disunity.

Security analysts say the renewed support from Washington signals growing international confidence in Nigeria’s counterterrorism strategy and underscores the country’s role as a key stabilising force in West Africa.

The United States has, in recent years, supported Nigeria through military training, intelligence sharing, logistical assistance, and defence equipment supplies, as both nations work to curb the spread of violent extremism across the region.
