VeryDarkMan gets N2m bail, regains freedom
Social media influencer, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan has met the bail conditions slammed on him by Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja on Friday following his arraignment by Nigerian police for alleged impersonation.
Otse had appeared in Court 1, Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, in the Federal Capital Territory, facing charges over the unauthorized use of a police uniform.
According to his legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, the bail terms, which have now been met, require Otse’s sureties to present identification, submit an affidavit guaranteeing his attendance throughout the trial, and deposit their international passports.

The sureties must also provide utility bills and reside within Abuja’s jurisdiction, specifically within the municipal area. Additionally, the prosecutor has been directed to verify the sureties’ addresses.
Adeyanju outlined, “Two million, two sureties in like terms. Sureties to deposit international passports, sureties to provide means of identification. Sureties to depose to affidavit to provide the defendant during trial at all times. Prosecutor to verify sureties’ address. Sureties to provide utility bills, defendant to depose to affidavit to be available at all times during trial. Sureties to reside within the Court’s jurisdiction, particularly Abuja municipal.”
Otse was detained on Thursday after issuing a public apology to the police. He had worn a police uniform in a viral video, humorously referring to himself as the “CSP of an online division.” Otse explained in a follow-up video that he was unaware he needed official permission to wear the uniform and advised content creators to seek approval before using similar attire.
Adeyanju later revealed on X that his client was detained after responding to a police invitation, his second in as many days, noting, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
